When a patient has gaps in their smile caused by missing permanent teeth, Dr. Matt Pierce or Dr. Jim Heck may recommend a dental bridge in Greenwood, Indiana. A dental bridge closes spaces in your smile by replacing missing teeth. A dental bridge can do the following for you and your smile:
- Restore your smile
- Restore your ability to eat and speak properly
- Maintain the shape of your face
- Distribute your bite properly
- Keep your remaining teeth from drifting out of place
To place a dental bridge, our dentists will first remove a small amount of tooth enamel from the abutment teeth. The abutment teeth are the teeth on either side of the gap caused by missing teeth. This will allow room for the dental crown in your mouth. Impressions of the teeth are made so a dental crown can be custom-made. When your dental crown is complete, our dentists will place it in your mouth to check the fit. Multiple visits may be needed to check and adjust the fit of the framework and bite of the dental crown. Once everything is satisfactory, our dentists will permanently cement the dental bridge in place.
